Services

Every service is fixed-price and scoped before we start. We’ll send you a fixed quote within 5 business days of our call.

Most clients start with a key-journey audit: we test your priority tasks, explain what needs fixing, and retest after your team makes the changes.

What we do

We manually check any one web page with assistive technology and report up to 15 accessibility issues, with the same level of detail as a key-journey audit. It includes an optional 30-minute call to go over the report in detail and recommend next steps to remediate your website. The introductory price is $50, and it’s credited toward any engagement scoped within 60 days.

Key-journey audits

We manually test websites, web applications, mobile apps, software, and hardware against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, 2.1, or 2.2 (Levels A and AA) and the Revised Section 508 Standards.

A key-journey audit is a comprehensive conformance evaluation of every page or screen in scope. It covers the key user journeys you choose, such as paying a bill, applying, donating, checking out, or booking, or the whole product.

What’s included

  • Manual testing with assistive technology by a certified subject matter expert
  • A plain-language report with each barrier, why it matters, and how to fix it
  • An Accessibility Conformance Report
  • A recorded walk-through of each task included in your key user journeys
  • A 30-minute call to go over the results
  • One retest of each reported issue within 60 days, or as specified in your statement of work or client agreement

Not included

The audit doesn’t include pages or screens outside the agreed scope, fixing code, or legal advice. We don’t issue certificates; we give you a dated summary of what we tested and what we found.

Independent acceptance testing

Before you accept a contractor’s website, application, product, or documents, we test them against the contract’s accessibility requirements and tell you what passes, what doesn’t, and what to require before go-live.

Accessibility Conformance Reports

An Accessibility Conformance Report is a completed Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) for your product. Every key-journey audit includes one. We write evidence-linked reports on the VPAT 2.5 templates (WCAG, 508, EU, and INT), and the evaluator who did the testing signs each one.

Review of vendor Accessibility Conformance Reports

Buying software or hardware? We read the vendor’s Accessibility Conformance Report against the product, flag claims that don’t hold up, and give you the questions to ask before award or renewal.

Document accessibility evaluation

We test samples of your PDF and Office files, give guidance on templates and authoring, and acceptance-test documents that a vendor has remediated. For bulk remediation, we help you specify, select, and check a vendor.

Remediation guidance and retest

We give your developers and authors ready-to-use guidance for the barriers we found, and hold a working session with your team if you want one. We also offer additional retests after fixes, beyond the one included in every key-journey audit, with an updated, dated summary. Have you already fixed issues from an earlier report, ours or someone else’s? We’ll retest those too.

Training

We train developers, content authors, and procurement staff, either remotely or on site. Ask about our hands-on screen reader and disability awareness classes.

Assistive-technology testing session

Watch someone who uses assistive technology every day try your key tasks, and see exactly where they get stuck. It includes preparation, a live or recorded session of about an hour, and a short summary with the top fixes. It’s available alone or with an audit. Our sessions represent our specialist’s use of screen readers and other assistive technologies; for other disabilities, we work with partners.

What we don’t do

We test, report, advise, verify, and teach. We don’t write production code or perform in-house bulk document remediation.

What you receive

We map each finding to WCAG success criteria and the Revised Section 508 Standards (36 CFR Part 1194). Each finding includes steps to reproduce, severity, the effect on a real user in plain language, and a prioritized recommendation. On request, we’ll give your team a live demonstration of barriers and send you a sample report. Every engagement has a fixed price in writing. Our reports describe what we tested, when, and against which standard. We don’t certify legal compliance or give legal advice.

Why manual testing

Automated tools can detect issues on only 16 of the 50 WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria (Deque coverage report, 2021), and they can’t tell whether a person can finish a task. The U.S. Department of Justice has said automated tools alone can’t make a site accessible. Every audit we do is led by a person using assistive technology.

For web agencies

Your clients increasingly want proof, from someone other than the builder, that a new site works for people with disabilities. We test before launch and retest after fixes, with our name on the report.

  • Independent report: we deliver the report to you and your client. You keep the design and build relationship.
  • Referral: introduce us, we contract directly, and we pay you a referral fee.
  • We agree on scope and turnaround before we start, rank findings for your developers, don’t compete for design or build work, and put partner terms in writing.
